Dale Sherman, 88, of Higginsville, died Thursday, September 16, 2021 at his home.

He was born September 20, 1932 in Higginsville, to John and Neva (Goodman) Sherman.
He served in the National Guard from 1948-1951.
He married Mary Lee Gassen on September 23, 1951. They had 4 children. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1972. He married Ethel Baldwin on December 1, 1972. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2005.

Dale was a union meat cutter for Kroger, which meant moving from town to town as the job required. After he and Mary were married they moved to Butler, MO, where they lived for a couple of years. Next they moved to Gladstone, were they stayed from 1953-1968. They had an opportunity to move home, to Higginsville, in 1968. When the IGA closed he decided to remain in Higginsville but commute to work in the neighboring towns. He retired in 1989.

Retirement meant full time devotion to his hobbies and volunteering. He kept very busy restoring old tractors and delivering Meals on Wheels and spending time with his coffee club buddies. He spent countless hours working on projects at his church, St. Mary’s, solving and tackling construction and engineering feats that left others scratching their heads. His vegetable garden was a true example of his generous nature. He spent weeks and months tending it, so that he could give most of it away to his friends.

In addition to his two wives, he is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Richard “Sonny” and Johnny Sherman.

He is survived by:
Sons:         Andrew Sherman (Norma)    of Higginsville
